He graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft Calcutta. He was awarded First Prize at the Academy of fine arts Calcutta. At Arts and Crafts society New Delhi in 1933 - 34. He along with Gobardhan Ash founded 'Artist Rebel Group' in 1930 which did not survive. He was known for his water colours . In 1943 during the Bengal Famine he painted some expressive oils. His favourite subjects are from wildlife and nature.

He exhibited solo shows its Lucknow 1943, Calcutta 1946, New Delhi 1949, 51, 54, 60, Simla in 1951 Calcutta 1951, Canada 1970, 71.
